Bollywood is known for amazing movies, there are a lot of romantic and comedy movies that became very famous.
Something that isn’t that popular in Bollywood is the animated movies, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t exist. They do exist, and they are good. There aren’t many of them, but we managed to make a list of the best-animated Bollywood movies.

When the Indian Cinema started making animated movies they started making movies with mythology theme, so that people in India can connect with the animated movies and that they can understand them better.

1. Ramayana – The Legend of Prince Rama (1992)

The first movie on our list is from 1992, but it’s not a Bollywood movie. Yes, we know, we are cheating a little bit, but we needed to include this animated movie on the list.

Ramayana – The Legend of Prince Rama was directed by Yugo Sako and it was made in the year when India and Japan were celebrating their 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The movie was based on Indian myth of Ramayana, where the avatar Sri Ram fights the wicked king Ravana.

2. Hanuman (2005)

The next animated movie on our list is Hanuman from 2005. The movie was released by Sahara India Pariwar, and it dramatizes the life of Lord Hanuman when he was just a child.

The story starts when Lord Hanuman was born. This animated movie was very popular and it quickly became famous among the children in India.

3. Return of Hanuman (2007)

Two years after Hanuman, the Return of Hanuman was released. It is an animated movie that features the adventures of Lord Hanuman.

The interesting part about this movie is that it isn’t a sequel to the first Hanuman movie, but Lord Hanuman is the main character. Another interesting part is that this movie is not based on Hindu Mythology, and the story was completely new.

4. Bal Ganesh (2007)

This animated movie is one of the children’s favorite. And why is that? It’s because the main character is Lord Ganesh when he was a child. But he wasn’t an ordinary child, he was naughty and very mischievous. The story focuses on the adventures of Lord Ganesh and his friend Mooshak, the mouse.

5. Roadside Romeo (2008)

Roadside Romeo is a Hindi-American animated movie, which is a musical comedy produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra. You could see this movie all around the world because it was distributed by Walt Disney Studios.

The main character is a dog called Romeo that is living in Mumbai with his rich family. He had a perfect life until his family decided to move and to leave him behind. Romeo finds himself alone on the street of Mumbai, but he then meets the love of his life, Laila.

6. Jumbo (2008)

You might have heard of Jumbo the elephant, everyone has heard of him. And this Jumbo is also an elephant, but this movie isn’t a remake of the American animated movie Jumbo, it is a remake of Thai movie Khan Kluay. This Jumbo is on a journey to find his father.

7. Dashavatar (2008)

Like many other, this animated movie was also inspired by Hindy Mythology, and this time with Hindu God Vishnu. The main plot of the movie is that the evil is present during the evolution of mankind and the Dashavatar, or the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu are there and they have been trying to triumph over evil. This movie was loved by the children, but also by the parents too.

8. Ghatothkach (2008)

Ghatothkach was released in 2008 and it is an animated movie that is based on the life of the Mahabharata character Ghatotkacha, who is the son of Bhima and Hidimba. The movie was written and directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao.

9. Bal Ganesh 2 (2009)

This movie is a sequel to Bal Ganesh from 2007. We told you that he was a very naughty boy when he was young, but in this sequel, he evolves from that naughty and mischievous boy to a very intelligent elephant-headed God. He then goes on a series of adventures with his friends to fight and defeat evil forces.

10. Toonpur Ka Superhero (2010)

This one is really interesting because it is a mix. In this animated movie, a real-life costumed actor is kidnapped and he’s been asked to be a real hero of Toonpur. This movie was India’s first live-action – 3D animation combination feature film.

11. Ramayana- The Epic (2010)

Another movie with Ramayana as the main character. In this animated movie, Lord Rama is sent for exile for 12 years, along with his wife Sita and his brother Laxman. His wife gets kidnapped by Ravana, The King of Lanka, and Rama has to save her. Ramayana – The Epic was released by Warner Bros.

12. Delhi Safari (2012)

This animated movie won the National Award for Best Animation Film in the year 2012. It’s a stereoscopic 3D animation movie. It is a really interesting animated movie, where animals fight together to save their habitat.

They plan a trip to Delhi to ask the parliament why the forest where they live is on the verge of destruction.

13. Krishna Aur Kans (2012)

Krishna Aur Kans was the first stereoscopic animated film. This movie is really interesting and it’s full of action and drama. It chronicles Krishna’s early years, from his birth as the nemesis of his tyrannical uncle Kans.

14. Mahabharat 3D (2013)

Mahabharat is another animated movie that has been inspired by Hindu mythology, and it’s a computer-animated historical drama. The story narrates the struggle that has been going on between two groups of cousins in the Kurukshetra War and the fates of the Kaurava and the Pandava princes and their succession.

15. Hanuman: Da’ Damdaar (2017)

This animated movie is a newer one, it is from 2017. Anjani didn’t forget how her son almost lost his life, and now she wants to protect him. She doesn’t want him to harm himself again.

At one point his father returns home from war and finds his once brave son to be a very scared boy. Maruti, the boy, prays to God to become a brave boy, and God answers his prayers and sends him into a series of jungle adventures.
